Hi there,

I am relatively new to this forum. I wrote a message a couple weeks ago with all my questions and I had many wonderful people respond with information and support. Thank you!

I am looking to find any cookie biters (or professionals) who can share their experiences with this type of loss....difficulties and tips they have found.

At first it was great to finally hear all the sounds I couldnt hear, which was mostly soft voices. My audio is great. I feel comfortable with her. She started me off at a point and increased the sound over 2 weeks. My soft sounds are where they are supposed to be but I think I have gotten used to them because they arent as loud as they were at first. This is so frustrating! The sounds such as paper crinkling, fans, background noise, where I have read other cookie biters have problems with, are a bit high. My audio turned the highs down a little bit and I have tried to adjust to them but when I first put the HAs in in the morning I have to adjust all over again. Anyone have this?

I have tried to stay positive but I oscilate between positive, denial, and being down and ready to freak out. I was so frustrated last week that I just took them out. I could hear the 'other' sounds much better but the voices! They were so low :( I ended up with them back in and at least glad I could hear better but not all that great.

I am trialing Oticon Agil Pro BTE RIC. I do like them. A little microphoney at times. I love the streamer with it. I am a techie! Next week I will be trialing Widex Clear Fusion and after that I want to try either Fonak or Starkey. I am not sure about the models of those brands, I still have to investigate that.

Thank you so much for your help! I am proactive and believe in being educated to better work with my audiologist, making this an easier transition.

Have a great today!!

I'll never if I don't ask, What do you refer to when you say "Cookie Biters"?

As far as I can tell, it refers to someone who hears low and high frequency sounds better than those in the middle.

Most people either have high or low frequency loss. This with loss just in the critical middle frequencies are less prevalent.

At least, that is what I think this means.

Hi there,
Yes that is correct. If you look at my audiogram you will see that my mid range is much lower than my highs and lows. The mid range is the speaking range :(

I am a cookie biter too, but won't be of great help to you having problems to adjust to HA myself.

I know the feeling and do not find it easy to remain positive at all times. For the moment I am in a second trial period and I find it quite exhausting sometimes :D

For Phonak latest spice technology aids you need a really skilled audi to fine tune them.

With my current audi I am trialing the Resound Alera 9 for the moment. I certainly want to give the Phonak Ambra (or Audeo) another chance, and maybe Starkey or Oticon if my audi can get a hand on this brands.
