Hi everyone,
I have no experience with assistive listening devices outside the bluetooth capabilities of my hearing aids. I do very well with my hearing aids most of the time but there are a couple of situations where I can't hang on to conversations. I have a great deal of trouble hearing speech in small groups especially in noisy or echoey settings. For example, if I'm sitting with a group of eight people in a noisy restaurant, I have trouble hearing anyone other than the people I'm sitting closest to and sometimes, it is even difficult to hear them. This is horrible when it comes to business or organizational meetings held in places like I'm describing. Is there any kind of assistive device that might help me hear better in these sorts of circumstances?
Thanks much.

Sounds like the hearing aids themselves need an adjustment. Do you have a dedicated resaurant program?

Yes I do have a dedicated restaurant setting but it doen't help. I thought maybe it is the nature of my hearing loss but I'd like to know if others think I need to get an adjustment.

I think there should be a big difference in the general program and the restaurant program. I do about as well as the normal hearing folks in those situations. They don't get everything either.

Hi Shirley
you need Telecoil for this; FM Sennheiser Mikroport-System 2015, costs around £1.5K here in the UK (see link from Canada below) expensive.............. But,, brilliant for meetings! I was at a Union meeting on Monday, maybe around 12 people there, I never missed any of the conversation at a very large table, perhaps the furthest person was 15 feet away, I just stick it in the middle of the table and the mike picks up the voices:D
Good luck, cheers Kev.

Shirley, you can have a look on hearing aid accessory (http://www.metrohearing.com/hearing-aid-accessories-devices.html) like Streamer and ConnectLine which would be usedful to you. I use them with me when watching TV and sometimes when i go to Restaurant with my family or friends. This does helps.
