I've left Costco behind and have an appointment with an audiologist for next week. I would like to trial two hearing aids. How do the majority of you feel about this? Is this a reasonable request? I'm going to the audiologist through a program (Epic), don't know whether that makes a difference.

Thanks for your input.

Pretty much all manufacturers provide hearing aids on a 90 day sale or return basis. So the hearing professional has 90 days from the day he fits the aids, to determine if the patient wishes to keep the aids or not. All they lose if they have to return the aids is the cost of the FedEx.

So on that basis if it comes down to it anyone should be able to offer you 30-60 days of trial without being out of pocket in any way.

A good hearing professional would let you trial two or three sets, but it would not be unreasonable for them to charge some kind of fee should you decide to go with none of them.

Nancy,
Are you talking about trying two different HA at the same time? Several people on the Forum have done this but I don't know how they can get an accurate assessment on which is better, since it takes your Brain up to a week or more to acclimate to the new sound from each HA. So how would you make a decision as to which sounds better if you have to wear one for a couple of weeks and then switch to the other. I would think it would get confusing as to which is better. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not sure how I was envisioning it. I did want to know from everyone whether asking for more than one trial was a reasonable request. Then next question would be how do most people accomplish this.

Earlier on when I was trialing the Futures, an audi gave me the Agil Pros to try for a week. I was immediately struck by how pleasant the sound was and within a few days was aware that I wasn't asking people to repeat themselves half as much as with the Futures. If I had only tried the Futures, I wouldn't have realized that there was something better out there for me.

So I'm not sure a few weeks on one and then on the other wouldn't work. But I'm open to suggestions.

I agree 100% about the time and services, and know if I don't buy anything, there IS a $175 fee. However, I do intend to purchase aids.

Do I need to clarify with audi that I'd like to try more than one aid, or is it a given?

Thanks.

I would tell her. I don't normally trial more than one hearing aid if the first one works great. I usually will try a second one if the first one isn't satisfactory.

I agree with DocAudio - just mention it so that you can be on the same page from the start. It can only help the process.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
