I've been using the SmartLink for several years, and have always been impressed by the Bluetooth interface with my LG cellphone. I just hit the green phone button, issue a voice command, and the call goes through. I never have to take the phone out of my pocket.

A few weeks ago I tried the iCom for a few days. While I was impressed with the stereo sound quality (of music) and the unit's simplicity, I couldn't believe that it does not have the ability to initiate a call. The manual tells you to place the call on your cell phone manually, then switch on the iCom.

This is a major disadvantage, especially when driving. Has anyone else noticed this?

The more reason I'm staying with my Smartlink SX and 2 receivers.

I'm glad you said that. With all the buzz about iCom, I thought I was missing something. I also have the Naida UP (both ears) and I'm on my second SmartLink. With the myPilot remote, the iCom for Bluetooth, the SmartLink for FM, and my cell phone, I think I might actually collapse from the weight of all the hardware (or die from the radio waves).

LOL....you're a riot!!

Anyway, regarding the stereo, were you able to hear a difference as compared to mono? (if you have ever tried hearing FM in both ears)

I liked the fact that I was able to have my FM receivers integrated in both my Naida UP aids. This gives me only the Smartlink SX to carry, which I usually do in a holster on my belt. At times I wear it on the lanyard....but I like the option of either way, better option than the iCom.....always on the neck.

ljjehl,

I do have the FM receivers on both right and left Naidas. I have using the SmartLink to listen to music for several years (previously with the Phonak Claro and the Savia Arts).

When I got the Savias, it was the first time I had been fitted in both ears, since the hearing in my right ear is virtually non-existent (I can only hear a few low frequencies). Although I've been using the audio input of the SmartLink to feed music to both ears, the sound quality of the right ear has always been inferior. Still, input into that ear tended to center the sound a little and enhance the listening experience.

With that said, when I tried the same thing by feeding music into the iCom, I realized that the stereo signal would not be beneficial to me, since most of the music content that was unique to the right channel was either very distorted or lost. So, the bottom line is that a mono signal feeding both ears is best for me.

Very nice....

I have only one FM receiver right now, in the process of receiving the second in a matter of weeks.

I had trialed the iCom, thought it was a nice setup, but like all devices, they have their ups and downs. After trialing several pieces of equipment, I thought it was best to have my Smartlink and two FM receivers. Stereo was not a requirement. I decided binaural hearing with the FM was my requirement, in order to have the best hearing experience. With some extra adapters, I'm able to connect my Smartlink with my CapTel phone as well as the cell phone and computer.

I haven't figured the best route yet (Smartlink w/adapters are current setup)to connect my FM receivers to my Captel phone. I'm looking into a bluetooth gateway, but I would like to use existing equipment right now...
