I finally went to the Doctor on my hearing loss. When I took the hearing test from the in-house audiologist, my right ear showed a severe to profound hearing loss and my left ear was mild to moderately severe. The doctor said she wasn't sure an HA would help my hearing for my right ear, but the audiologist wanted to sell me two Starkey open fit Zon instruments.
My question is: Can anyone give me some advise on what type of HA would be appropiate for this type of loss and should I only get one for the good ear. I'm afraid the volume would need to be turned up so loud on the bad ear that it might affect my hearing long term in the better ear. When I tried the Starkey in both ears, I don't think the one in the bad ear did any good.

My Audi test results are somewhat like yours.
The BC-HIS I went to had me try a set of "Starkey BTE J13 Cierra's".. which up to this point seem to be working good for me. Because of the type of hearing loss, he recommended I use the "full ear molds" and not the "open fit" like yours. I've found NO whistling noise or feedback with them.. except when I cup my hand against my ear.
As far as the volume situation, my BC-HIS set my manual volume control to mid point, ie: 2.5 on both HA's and then power adjusted them through his computer. He set multi-memory/mode position #1 as being normal situations, while position #2 is reduced background with increased frontal volume.. and position #3 as TelCoil.
Depending on the situation, whatever volume level I need at that particular time I can either manually set it.. and then reset back to my normal levels, or quickly go to multi-memory/mode position #2 if I need a quick volume increase.
Enough about my situation..... so here are my thoughts for you.
Instead of the Zon, why not ask her about the BTE Destiny.. or like in my case, the J13 Cierra? Also.. ask her about the use of "full ear molds" and not the "open fit".
I'm NOT a Audi or BC-HIS, but I would think because the Zon is a small BTE it might mean that they're not able to package as much power into its size as they could with a full size BTE. It would seem that less power would mean less ability for you to hear. Just a thought.

I read your other posts in November on the Cierra J13 HA. I thought you weren't going with that Starkey model since it was 4 year old technology?

CarNutFl..
The BC-HIS I went to has a 60 day trial period, plus he said if I wanted to up grade to the Destiny he would allow the full price of the J13 Cierra's to be applied toward the cost of the Destiny's.
The main reason I backed away from the Destiny's was because they were several hundred $$$'s more.. and that was for the 400 series. It's bad enough it cost me $3,600.00 cash out of pocket for the J13's.. but additional $$$$'s.
I really couldn't afford the Cierra's as it was, but what's a person going to do? It wasn't as though I had a BIG choice of Hearing Aids to choose from in my area.

in terms of severe to profound,
the name Phonak will always come up, their models could be
either the Supero -their old instrument or the Naida.
The new Unitron 360 looks interesting...
I had also had sucess with the Sumo DM, which while it is somewhat old technology it has perform real well..
Gn resound has an instrument call sparx and its cheap version is call
Beltone Force...
