:DHowdy all...
As an experienced forum-go'er in the motorcycle and camera fields, I usually check for a sub-forum for introductions. I didnt see that here, so I will do it in this place...
A background: I am 50, and have spent a lot of time near loud stuff (marching music, tractors, and printing presses) but I am told that my loss could be from an impact with a windshield in 1992. I hit someone at 60mph... Not a good day.
It appears that my hearing doesnt seem to be changing much over the lasst 10 years. Here is a summary of one test about 5 years ago.
Freq L R
250 -20 -15
500 -35 -20
1000 -40 -35
2000 -40 -40
4000 -40 -30
8000 -40 -40
(I am not sure if those "-'s" belong there, but it seemed the thing to do.)
In a practical way, the loss is enough to give me trouble, but it also seems to be not enough to justify correction. Although, there have been times that the frustration is great-then I would give an arm for the help!
I am one of these unemployed people, and have decided to go back to school, and am a bit concerned about hearing in class. I am considering correcting at least one side to help in those situations.
Understanding what types of aid will work best for my curves is the place to start. Then, finding someone and exploring how the heck to pay for it. For the life of me, I cannot understand why insurance companies will pay for glasses, but not aids. Loss of hearing can present risk to a person just as much as sight...
I understand the difference in the shape and size of the aids, and at one time about 12 years ago tried some beltones that were what I think are called in ear?-the tiny ones with the fish line handle.
I dont much care if the thing is the size of a phonograph provided it does what I need it to do. I do think, however, that in todays technological environment, there must be something that can be programmed to correct only what I need corrected. Those beltones amplified everything, and they made it almost uncomfortable to wear all the time. You all know what I mean-going to the bathroom was like being in hurricane rumplestiltskin...
Anyone want to toss some thoughts out on where to look?
Thanks in advance...
