Is it necessary to remove batteries before using dry&store?

I've been using Dry-and-Store for several years.

I have tried it both ways, and the battery life is identical whether I remove them or not.

It is a good idea though, to completely open the battery compartment so as to allow for better airflow.

I don't remove them and haven't noticed a problem. But I do keep the battery doors open.
