About to finish my due diligence and purchase HAs for the first time. Wondering if I should be aware of any significant difference between Resound and Widex. Have had trials with each, and other than the size (both BTE) (and price) see… er I mean hear little difference.
Thanks

You can check hearingplanet.com for comparison but the bottom line would be which you prefer and how much you can afford. Also which particular model would be helpful in giving you an answer.

I have very similar hearing loss to you. I'm on the fence about if I should purchase HA's and, if so, what to trial. I'd be very interested in hearing what you decide to purchase and why.

Tggloss...I am also in the process of trying various aids from Costco (good 90 day money back trial period, patient HIS and good prices)...My loss is also in the lower frequency...I have decided to stick with a BTE and get something with a remote for volume control...I hope to try Bernafon Veras and had molds made today...I have had a hard time with a static, "sizzling bacon" type sound in most of the aids with speakers in the ear (ITC, CIC's)...the price for 2 aids is around 1800.00 and 80.00 for molds...If I hear the static noise in these, I need to start all over again and find an audiologist with reasonably priced aids that work for me...a tall order I guess!!! I am wondering what price range was quoted for the Resound and Widex you are looking at ...good luck and keep me posted! Rosie PS...Modmom~I hope you decide to trial some aids...it truly makes a difference when you are out in the business world!!:)

You should take your own advice. :D

I would sugggest Starkey IQ7 RICS with occluded domes from an independent audiologist +/- $2,100 each. They will be much more comfortable than any traditional BTE...smaller, lighter. less occlusion, softer, easier to maintain (no acoustic tubing to maintain), no feedback, automatic telephone response...

Thanks Dr. K...I REALLY want the Costco aids to work!!! I have a limited budget this year (my boy is in college and twin girls starting to drive/insurance:eek:...all on a teacher's salary)...so I was hoping to find a set for about 2000-2200 tops! I have a reverse slope and have read a lot of posts that a full mold in the ear would trap sounds I needed (?)...I had BTE's before and they were okay, but lost them last November....I guess one last try at Costco and then the search will begin once again if they don't work!! Thanks for your suggestion!:)

Modmon, I wore both the Resound (Explore E6101) and the Widex (PA 440) for 2 weeks each over the period of a month and went with the Resound. The widex were nice but I could not get the AU to LISTEN to me when i told her the sound was to 'sharp" and "tinny". The Resound are a bit larger, but not noticeably and the AU suggesting those worked with me very closely to make the minor adjustments that were needed.
The Widex quote was $4,700 for two plus the usual warranty & battery inclusion. The resound were $3,600 for two.

If your loss is similar to mine, I would not hesitate to get HAs. I'm wondering why I waited so long.
