What kind of impact, will these products shorten HA life?

I have stopped using anything for fear it will damage my
HA,s (BTE).

I'm tired of looking like I just got out of bead, any suggestions
besides a buzz cut? :(

The user's manual for my aids recommends that you not wear the aids during application of hair care products to avoid contaminating the microphone shields. They do not say to avoid all together.

Perhaps if you mention what sort of product you want to use the pros will be able to offer anecdotal evidence of whether a problem might arise.

I have always used some kind of gel that goes on before drying.
Maybe it not a big deal I suffer form (OCD) it's just part of my daily
routine.

The main problem tends to arise with hairspray and product that gives off charged particles. The hairspray reduces the size of the few micron holes in the microphone screen until they become completely useless.

The charged particle problem is based on the fact that the mics contain gold coated mylar - like the stuff they wrap satellites in - this is given an large charge of static electricity and held under tension a very small distance away from a 'collector'. If you happen to be in an environment with fumes of charged particles, they will gradually strip away the 'static' charge from the mylar - again reducing the sensitivity of the mic. Typically the worst type of situation would be somewhere like a spray-booth or a printers where these chemicals are in use lots of the time.

Try ear gear for bte's, they will protect your aids from moisture and hair products. Always remember if you use hairspray, to spray your hair first and then put on your aid. I have used the ear gear for patients that sweat a lot and it works great, so I would think it would also help with hair products. Just my opinion.

Word of advice. Do the hair first, then put in the aids.

Yep, this seems reasonable. That's what I do.

It's the same deal after getting your hair cut. A lot of places use hair spray after styling your hair. Get those aids out of there first or tell them no hair spray.

sun screen also causes problems.

I have a patient who uses sunscreen daily and wears BTE aids.

the bte cases would crack after a few months, this happens multiple times. finally tracked it down to the sunscreen.

switched to a diff brand and Widex switched to a cellulose based case instead of plastic
