    Sounds interesting.

    The drug is called codenamed LY411575.

    I'd read in the past about them trying to develop drugs for regrowing damaged hair cells but this is the first time I've heard of a specific drug being mentioned that was susccesful in mice like that. I guess the next step will be human testing soon.

    There will never be a cure for deafness because all the audiologists and hearing aid companies would go out of business or much restricted.

    I would say at least ten years away or longer. In all the years of pharmaceutical companies making various drugs they have only found ways to destroy inner ear hair cells, never ones that would regrow them. I wouldn't keep from getting hearing aids based on the availability of this new drug coming on the market anytime soon, because you will be waiting a long time.

    Wow. That's crazy. Would anybody take that drug to cure their deafness? I wouldn't, I don't think. Really it's unimaginable!

    Well, earlier in history, we didn't think we'd come up with "flying machines" either.
