    Default Baby hearing loss

    Hello to everyone,

I am 35 years old and I am hearing aid impaired from my birth. Also I have a Baby 7 weeks old and recently we found out that he has also hearing loss.

The first tests were the otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) inside the manority. We repeat them after a month and there were negative again.
Then we did some measurements with the auditory brainstem response (ABR) method. Our doctor said that the baby has short to medium hearing loss and the baby must to wear instruments as soon as possible.
But it is possible in the future to be not neccesary to wear instruments. Also he mentioned us that there is no other way at the moment to evaluate better the hearing loss of baby.

I tried to find out posts about baby hearing loss but I didn't find something.

I would like to know your opinion about that situation.

    Thanks in advance,

There are few threads. Search children, not babies, and they should come up.
The CDC web site has a lot of information. Search on there for "hearing loss in children".
ABRs are at the moment the best test for hearing in infants. Your doctor is right; the sooner you get the baby set up with aids, the better. You don't want to lose any opportunity for communication development.
    Good luck.
