    Default Irritation from ear mold

Has anyone experienced an outer ear infection caused by ear molds? I saw an ENT today and I was told that may be my problem. Speech has been sounding muffled on the right. He said that it's an outer ear infection caused by irritation from the ear mold, and that is causing thickening of the ear drum. He prescribed antibiotic eardrops, so I should find out in a week or so if that solves the problem. I was just wondering if this is something that happens frequently to people who wear hearing aids. I never had it happen with soft silicone ear molds. Now I am wearing hard acrylic Power Molds. Are they more likely to cause this sort of problem?

Outer Ear symptoms that may be attributed to allergy include chronic itching or frequent infections of the ear canal.
An In Vitro test (sometimes called a RAST test) is a blood test sometimes used to diagnose food and inhalant allergies. It measures antibodies (such as IgE) to specific allergens, and may be used to determine your sensitivity to inhalants and some forms of food allergy.

I used the ear drops and kept my right HI out for a week, and when I put it back in I found that sounds are still muffled on that side. The next step is to retest my right ear. It's possible that I lost some hearing. With all the HI changes I might not have noticed. I feel pretty deaf without them at this point. I do notice now that the right ear mold feels like it is touching the inside of my ear. It is a bit uncomfortable. Is it possible that the ear mold goes in too far and is irritating my eardrum?
