I got the poster from Starkey about 5 years ago. Don't know if they still have it.

Thanks, guys, for all the comments, opinions and even the psychoanalysis
. Yeah, Dr. Jake, I do tend toward negativism sometimes. Something I have to work at. I did try to go into the HA situation with reasonably hopes but sometimes that fails. I don't really think my aids are not programmed right. I think I got very good aids. They just are not my natural, NORMAL hearing. I've lost that and don't like it. It's just my problem of adjusting to hearing less. I did get the directional mike and it helps a good bit in noisy environs--particularly in the song services at church. Keeps the sound from bombarding me so much.Doc Audio, My speech discrim is 50% in my left ear and 70% in my right. I do hear pretty well in reasonable quiet places. My left ear is also the weakest and it seems like that aid is not as strong. Is that reasonable? I won't change audis. Too much hassle and she seems pretty adequate and willing to work with me. The TV--the sounds are so CRISP. Almost too sharp. My audi turned that part down in my left ear where it was a problem and said she turned the speech up--whatever that means. I really think my speech discrim is the real problem and that can't be fixed. My audi said that I'm almost in the profound area in some high frequency settings. I'm down way past the middle of the graph. Guess that's another reason for my situation. Thanks to you all. I will redouble my efforts to be more positive and accept the things I can't fix. |

Aural rehab or LACE program may also help you.

if we knew your audio-gram and what model and style of hearing aid you were using some of us might have suggestions. certainly the weaker side should be set different then the stronger side. after I get the guys pretty close to going out the door on their first fit I stand behind them and rub my hands together about 6 inches from their ears and I ask if both sides have the same volume. after adjustment I'll rub my hands together again and snap my fingers a couple of times we go through this until they say they are hearing the same volume on both sides.
