Default Canada ADP Program Cut Back on Hearing Aids?

1. I am advised that the Assistive Devices Programme will no longer cover BICROSS or CROS units. Is this true and if so, since when?

2. I purchased a set of hearing aids and received assistance under the Assistive Devices Programme about one year ago. The hearing aids were lemons; as were the replacement hearing aids from the same manufacturer (they were actually DEAD ON ARRIVAL... nobody even took a moment to check them out before calling us in for fitting). We demanded and received a different make of hearing aid which we are quite happy with.

3. The Audiologist is now telling us that ADP no longer covers CROS units and that the price of the change just went up by $850+ as a result, even though they were paid their 'grant' for the original hearing aids a year ago. We are also being told that the manufacturer, despite being unable to provide a reliable set of hearing aids and despite the replacement set being DOA is charging a 25% restocking fee and we are going to be hit with that (or not, depending on which way the wind is blowing from day to day and how the owner of the dealership happens to be feeling).

And comments on any of this? It seems to me that the hearing aid folks have already received their subsidy for the original hearing aids, no?

Tnx.

I would also like to find out when Phonak came out with this new CROS unit that takes the larger batteries and presumably has updated firmware.

The province of Ontario covers 75% up to a maximum of $500 per ear every 3 calander years for hearing aids, and 75% up to a maximum of $1350 for an FM system once every 3 calander years. Any and all accessories to hearing aids are not funded by ADP. ADP has not paid for CROS/BiCROS systems for a very long time now. CROS/BiCROS systems are deemed to be accessories to hearing aids.

Dispensing CROS/BiCROS systems are rare, and so there tends to be some confusion and errors with billing. This could be an honest billing error that your dispenser made.

Are you saying that ADP will cover 75% up to a max of $500 per ear PLUS 75% up to $1350 - every three years?

What I find most interesting and disconcerting is that this vendor has ALREADY been paid $500 PLUS $833.25 by Ontario ADP. They are now claiming that they will only pass along a $500 ADP Government Grant (this after almost a year of messing us about with defective hearing aids). I looked up the Phonak Audeo S system with Compilot and it is listed as an FM system. Sic.

I think we are going to let a judge decide what is fair here..... and we are going to then publicize that decision and the vendor name. They have been grossly incompetent in all aspects of this transaction, from their business practices, to the proficiency of their people in prescribing and programming the equipment and so on. They SMILE, but nontheless, had to get the factory rep in so that they could programme the units. They had no clue.

And all the owner could say was that they were highly trained professionals, (at which point she seemed to insist on being called "Doctor") and that they had spent much time on this... not to mention cancelled appointments, appointments booked with audiologists that were on vacation, refusal of the owner to return our latest call and email message requesting that we come to an amicable arrangement, etc.

I would call these folks eager to please and the owner nothing less than a buffoon with no desire to even attempt an amicable settlement of the matter nor the rendering of quality customer service.

All she could say was that she had several locations and was a very busy lady... that she was now suddenly "DOCTOR" such and such and so on.

I have never experienced anything like this in a professional (supposedly) setting in all my years.

As a matter of interest, I am listed in "Canadian Who's Who" by U of T Press.... I did not mention that to her nor request that I be recognized for my professional status.

We have not even had the courtesy of a response from this outfit. Not a peep.

You ask some great questions that should be discussed in private. There are some points that need clarification.

HearingAidHelper:
Have sent you PM. The plot thickens! Have been speaking with ADP and with the vendor and stories are not quite the same.
