Default icom very noisy to my phone conversation

I am new to the icom and have been using it for a month or so. People complain that it is very noisy and they get screachy noises and they find it hard to hear me. This will happen even when I am in a very quiet environment with the icom on the outside of my shirt. It is to a point that I can't really use it for business calls. My end is very clear and my tv link is very clear as well. Then there are times when people say it is very clear but for the most part it is very anoying to the other end of my call. Is there anything that I can do to make it work better.
Regards
Dave

Dave,
I don't know if a lapel mic will work with the Icom but I use one with my Streamer when I'm in wind or a super noisy situation and the people on the other end say it helps. I purchased the mic from Fry's electronics and it's one that usually fits a cell phone and costs less than $15.

I’ve had no complaints using the iCom with my iPhone 4. Phonak has released a new firmware for the iCom within the last month, but I’m not sure if it will solve your problem. Phonak has replaced the iCom with the ComPilot, finally a BT streamer and remote control in one.
Now if they could just add another Oticon feature: a single program button that changes both programs and volume.

Just looked it up, new firmware 2.11.77.0 solves intermittency issue with high electromagnetic emissions. The max. range of the PilotOne remote control during iCom streaming will be 40cm (15").

I had latest firmware and one before that and peoples are very stratified with my icom. They didn't realize i use something other then phone. In very noisy (city traffic) it worked too. Maybe slightly, slightly behind using phone mic.

So, may i suggest you something - update icom - try pair another phone. Don't put phone away from icom, keep it close for testing. If that fail, go to audi and ask for testing another icom - its not that he need more then 10 min to pair it with your phone.

When i had my first streamer i get what you describing - poor quality for other user, crackling. Metal barrel sound of my voice. I update firmware and nothing so i replace it for new under warranty. New one was much better. Useable, but nowhere near my icom. So i com can be very very good.

I will return it because new updated compilot is out and will get it to have better bat life and remote control. It have among other feature external mic support.

And at last, an external microphone. That will make a huge difference. Now, having just agreed with my wife that I'll buy no more gadgets, how do I sneak this one past her?
