Default Is There a Difference Between Dryer Types?

It seems like there are two types of dryers on the market. I am torn between the Serene Innovations Model and The Dry & Store Global II. The first uses dry heat and two small UV lights and the second uses circulating air, a dry dissicant and a UV tube. I would really prefer the Serene Innovations model because it requires no maintenance and there is nothing to replace. Does it really make a difference which I choose?

Thanks!

Jeff

I sent Starkey a question concerning the UV light and got this reply..

Anne Williamson
to me
Dear Mr. Shu,

Thank you for your e-mail.

The UV light will not harm your mold if it is a hard material.

We cannot guarantee whether the UV light will harm a soft material…

We hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely,

There is also a Dry & Store without the UV tube. That's what I use.

My main question is which method works better, circulating dry air or heat. Or perhaps they're both equally as good.

Jeff,
My D & S uses circulating dry air with the UV light but the air does seem to be heated while it is working. The comment from Mick Shu is also correct although from personal experience I can say the soft ear tubes do become hard and brittle faster with the UV light than without it. Without UV light my tubes last about 6 months, with the light they last about half that. However, if you don't want the UV light you can simply take it out of the unit.

The Dry and Store Zypher uses a desiccant and circulating warm air so you get the benefit of both heated air and dry air. It does not have a UV lamp. The desiccant packs are cheap. Works out to about $1.50 per month.

I am "torn" between the Serene Innovations Renew and The Dry & Store Global II too.
Dry and Store uses mercury vapor tube which uses most germicidal UV-C rays with 254 nm wave length. Serene Renew uses two UV-A LEDs with low power and with 385 nm wave length.
Circulated dry air or heat convection? I think that heat can make defects of plastic casing of HA or inner electronics such as microphones.
But Dry Bricks and UV tube must be replaced from time to time... This is an extra money. And I live in Russia, and here is no of sales of Dry and Store - only over Internet.

Read here: http://www.connevans.co.uk/store/vie....do?id=4262909

In the opinion of our evaluation panel, this drying box is not as effective as the Dry & Store range of drying products, but offers a good solution for those with a smaller budget.

By far the best toy that I got from my audiologist is the Spin Station. It spins my hearing aid really fast and slings the ear wax out of it. For more info go to General Hearing Instruments website and ask your audiologist to order one for you.

Go to General Hearing Instruments, Inc. website to find out more about the Spin Station, its a bit pricey but it really works.

Cheers,
