Default Battery Problems

I have Starkey hearing aids (SA SDE2).

Right from the beginning I was having problems with the batteries dying out quickly. When I first got the hearing aids I was told that the batteries would last a week, but every day or two I had to change them. Even if I had the hearing in intermittently the total time added up would not even equal 8 hours before the batteries would die.

During an Audiologist visit I was told to keep the battery compartment open when not in use. (Apparently it wasn't enough to just turn them off).

This seemed to help a little, but not much. Once I turn on the hearing aids, even for five minutes, and then turn them off the batteries will continue to drain even if I take them out of the compartment.

Can someone explain the reason for this? The German made batteries, which have the yellow sticker on the box, are "PowerOne"(P10) Zinc-Air 1.45V PR70, and I was given a year supply with the hearing aids.

Thanks.

Darren

Zinc air "batteries" are really small fuel cells. Once you pull off the tab they begin to consume their fuel. Opening the battery door will slow the demand slightly, but even with no demand they will die out within several days. I wear my Resounds from early morning until late at night and get about 4 days.

They don't really work like real batteries. If you pull the tab off and use them for 8 hours, then come back next week, they will be dead.

Is it possible you got a bad set of batteries? On Amazon.com most people are satisfied with this brand. A very few complain about short life. Have you tried a different brand of batteries?

Just to clarify the industry converted from mercury based batteries to zinc last year for the us market.

I recommend you try the energizer brand, I have had more success with them.

Thanks a lot.

The place I got the hearing aids from seemed to be adamant about getting the same replacement batteries as the year supply they came with. (With the yellow mark on the package).

The yellow tab just indicates that they are size 10 batteries. When I used them in CIC aids, I usually got about 4 days from the batteries.

I have received shorter battery life if the batteries have an expired date. Is the date on your batteries still current? The date on my current size 13 batteries is January 2016.
