Just thought I would ask if there are any tips, from any Audi on here, as I've decided to train as a Audi.
Something that I thought about as always wanted to work with deaf people.

Not to put a damper on your aspirations, but are you confident that being at the profound level which is likely to get worse in the future, you're going to be able to relate conceptually and perceptually to people who have substantially lesser degrees of hearing loss and succesfully communicate and interact with them? While I think more deaf audiologists are very sorely needed in the industry because it takes one to know one, I think there is a practical limit.

@ NaidaUp
My audiologist is deaf, he has 2 huge BTEs and speaks like a deaf person. He is GREAT! It is inspiring to see that even though he has this challenge, he was able to do what he liked, what he wanted. He found ways to work around the problems that his handicap brought him for this kind of work. On top of being very competent, my audiologist is very passionate about his work and really cares for his patients. I feel privileged to be his patient. The best are always the more passionate about their work. So I would tell you to get out there and follow your dreams!!!

You'll have to be prepared for the course work but if you're game, you can do anything you set your mind to. When I first went to Salem State University, one of the professors spend three seconds looking at my grades and told me I "couldn't cut it" as an English major. I proved him wrong: I got my B.A. in English and followed that up with a M.Ed. Don't let anyone deter you if this is what you want to pursue for a career. Good luck. Laura |
